The first public version (0.1) of MAME, by Nicola Salmoria, was released on February 5, 19975. A version named SDLMAME4, using the Simple DirectMedia Layer (SDL) Portable library, is developed to be compatible with UNIX and Mac OS X systems. MAME is officially available for Windows and DOS operating systems, but has been focused on different systems. MAME, "Multiple arcade Machine Emulator", is an emulation software for PC whose purpose is to faithfully reproduce the operation of games and arcade systems in order to preserve the history of the video game and thus prevent certain titles from sinking into Oblivion.
